Community Payback

Whether its helping to clear the snow, litter picking, clearing undergrowth, painting railings or even sanding and painting benches, Midsomer Norton Town Council works in partnership with Avon & Somerset Probation Trust Community Payback teams.  Community Payback (formerly known as Community Service) is a sentence of the Court imposed on offenders.  Since 2003, Community Payback has seen over 6 million hours of work put into worthwhile community projects across the UK.

The Community Payback work groups are carefully risk assessed and closely supervised.  Courts can award sentences of between 40 and 300 hours and individuals are asked to “payback” to their communities.  The Town Council makes a small contribution to the cost of the scheme for every group that we host on our projects.  We are proud to be a part of such a successful and worthwhile initiative in partnership with Avon and Somerset Probation Trust.

So if you see a group in orange tabards working on a project around the town on a Sunday, they are really giving something back to the community and making a positive contribution to our surroundings.  In 2014 the projects in Midsomer Norton will include working on the River Somer in the town centre and on the Catholic Church Garden on which the Town Council have recently taken a lease.

If you have any worthwhile community based projects that you feel would benefit from Community Payback groups – please contact the local Community Payback Team Manager –  Joy Ellery on 03000 492627 or 07525988665.
