The Wonderful World of the Ladybird Book Artists at Victoria Art Gallery
The Victoria Art Gallery in Bath is hosting “The Wonderful World of the Ladybird Book Artists” exhibition from January 19 to April 14, 2024. Focused on the Ladybird books’ golden era from 1940 to 1975, the exhibit showcases the artists who played a significant role in creating these iconic children’s books. A diverse collection of Ladybird books and artworks, including magical fairy tales and informative guides, will evoke childhood memories for older visitors and introduce younger generations to these classics. The exhibition explores the history of Ladybird books, their phenomenal success, and the integral role illustrations played in engaging readers.

Curated by Ladybird expert Helen Day, the display features models, real locations, and the story of Ladybird’s transformation from a small Loughborough print business into a giant in children’s publishing. The event offers engaging activities such as a free ‘I Spy’ trail, a reading corner with a ‘Coco the Caravan’ den, ‘Toddler Thursdays’ story-time sessions, and family craft sessions during the February half term holidays.

The exhibition promises a nostalgic and colourful journey through Ladybird’s history, celebrating its impact on 20th-century Britain and providing a delightful experience for visitors of all ages.
