Wellow Brook Walk Plans

A plan has been devised to create a new pathway with new gates at either end. Selective vegetation will be cleared under ecological guidance to provide a view of the brook. New seating and a picnic bench will be installed with information signs and a map of the area. Existing pipework will be cleared and made good to stop the water flowing onto the new path.

A wet land area will be created for land drainage to take any surface water below and beyond the path. The meadow area will also receive attention and will be managed to maintain a balance of grassland and scrub and reduce the over dominance of coarse plants.

The Himalayan Balsam in the area will also be brought under control. Mowing will be undertaken periodically to provide space for the public to use.

Ongoing management works:

  • Meadow management to limit spread of scrub vegetation and encourage more species.
  • Diverse grassland, discouraging excess nettles and brambles.
  • Periodic removal of vegetation encroaching onto paths
  • Control and eradication of Himalayan balsam
  • Inspection and management of trees
  • Ongoing grass cutting of closer mown areas
